The Ts’msyen Culture Society is incorporated as a BC Society and has been operating officially since 2022 with a dedicated group of Ts’msyen members who have come together to catalyze the development of culturally relevant projects and initiatives in collaboration with Ts’msyen communities and other service organizations while building local capacity.

Mission

We are a community led organization focused on serving Ts’msyen members and fully committed to the continuous development of our nation and the revitalization of our language, Sm’algyax.

Vision

A resilient, thriving, united Ts’msyen nation that possesses the core values of family, community, language and environmental protection. Advancing these values by recognizing and honoring our past, taking action in the present, and pursuing a dynamic future that is deeply rooted in Ts’msyen knowledge systems, Sm’algyax and ways of knowing.

Core Pillars

Food Security

Increasing food security and sovereignty across Ts’msyen Territory by providing support to food systems projects, food harvesters and monthly food distribution to groups such as elders, families, and other Ts’msyen people who need it. It is our goal to help get more locally caught seafood, medicinal and food plants and other locally grown vegetables and fruit to Ts’msyen people living in the Prince Rupert / Terrace region. We are currently working on developing a community food plan and food related social enterprises are currently being explored such as: urban meals on wheels, traditional foods for mothers program, Ts’msyen Food Hub, and local food production.

Sm’algyax Revitalization

Supporting language learners and fluent speakers with programs to revitalize Sm’algyax in our communities. Catalyzing new initiatives, immersion planning and program development. It is our to bring people together on the land to learn the language.

Indigenous Wellness

Our commitment is to provide more workshops and resources related to mental wellbeing, healing, traditional medicines, and on the land excursions and activities that support overall mental health and wellbeing of Ts’msyen people.
